asterisks
28 no Windows shortcuts in this drawerStar-shaped reference marks with varying numbers of points and styles. Used for footnotes, wildcards, required form fields and separators.
This group holds 28 characters. They are scattered from U+0359 to U+FF0A, 64,434 codepoints apart, because they were added to Unicode at different times and for different reasons. They are drawn from Dingbats (20), General Punctuation (3), Combining Diacritical Marks (1), Miscellaneous Mathematical Symbols-B (1) in the Unicode Standard, which is what decides how each one is encoded and how software sorts and compares it.
Most of them, 20 of the 28, come from Dingbats: the printer's ornaments from the classic Zapf Dingbats font. A block is an address rather than a category, and this group is drawn from 4 of them. The rest come from Combining Diacritical Marks, General Punctuation and Miscellaneous Mathematical Symbols-B.
None of these is listed here with a Windows Alt code, so copying is the route in this drawer.
2 have a compatibility decomposition, which means NFKC normalisation rewrites it into something plainer and a search box may not return what was pasted into it.
Every character below copies with one click. 1 of them have a guide page as well, with the Windows, Mac and HTML route written out.
