How to type symbols on Android
Gboard and Samsung Keyboard both hide their symbols two layers down and put the rest behind press-and-hold. As on iPhone, Windows Alt codes do not apply.

The first layer has digits and common punctuation; the second has currency, maths and the less common marks. Press and hold a key on either layer for more.
Press and hold for accents
Hold a vowel for its accented forms. On Gboard, holding the full stop opens a small panel of punctuation you would otherwise have to switch layers for.
The personal dictionary
Settings › System › Languages & input › Personal dictionary. Add the character as the word and give it a shortcut. It then appears as a suggestion when you type the shortcut.
