fractions

15 3 with a Windows shortcut that works

Precomposed fractions with Alt codes, including the halves, quarters and eighths present in Windows-1252.

This group holds 15 characters. They are scattered from U+00BC to U+215E, 8,355 codepoints apart, because they were added to Unicode at different times and for different reasons. They are drawn from Number Forms (12), Latin-1 Supplement (3) in the Unicode Standard, which is what decides how each one is encoded and how software sorts and compares it.

Most of the traffic to this group is for ½, ⅓ and ¼. The phrase people type for the first of those is half note symbol, which is worth knowing if you are looking for it under another name.

Most of them, 12 of the 15, come from Number Forms: fractions and Roman numerals as single characters. A block is an address rather than a category, and this group is drawn from 2 of them. The rest come from Latin-1 Supplement.

3 of the 15 have a Windows Alt code that works as printed. The rest are copy and paste, which works the same everywhere.

All 15 carry a numeric value and a compatibility decomposition. The first means software that asks what number a character is gets an answer rather than an error. The second means NFKC normalisation rewrites it into something plainer, so a search box may not return what was pasted into it.
